Half Court Singles

 

Tactical Problem: Creating open space on the court

Skill development: Pushing the opponent to the back of the court using the overhead clear

                              Anticipating opponents “play” to the open court space

 

Game/Task:

Half-court singles

 

Conditions:

  • students play half court singles beginning play by whatever means necessary
  • students are to alternate serve after every rally
  • points are awarded following each rally

  • two students per half-court

Teaching Points: 

Ø      refer to teaching cues for the overhead clear

Modifications / Refinements / Progressions:

  • students who are achieving a high level of success with the overhead clear may be introduced to the scissor kick
